MOVTA'S POSITION STATEMENT RE: MID-LEVEL PRACTITIONER

The Missouri Veterinary Technicians Association feels that a mid-level practitioner role for veterinary technicians is premature with the current state of our profession. We feel strongly that we have other issues that need to be addressed before this can even be discussed, such as the overwhelming need for title protection and defined scope of practice in all 50 states. A credentialed technician, especially a VTS, fully utilized to the top of their license is already the closest thing we have to a mid-level practitioner role.

This is why MOVTA has been working with the Missouri Veterinary Medical Board and the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association on the MVMA RVT utilization task force to push for those changes in Missouri. However, until those changes happen, we can not support the need for a mid level practitioner role at this time.
